Alleged scarf thief appears in Greenwich court

A New York City socialite accused of stealing an $11,000 scarf from a high-end Greenwich department store appeared in court on larceny charges today.

Beata Boman was arrested on Tuesday just blocks from Richards department store in Greenwich.

Police say a security guard saw her put the scarf in her bag and leave the store.

When police detained her a few blocks away, they say she told them she was planning on returning it.

Boman's attorney says she made an innocent mistake, but when she realized it and went back to return the scarf, it was too late.

Boman is due back in court on July 11.
