State investigating bad gasoline

The State Department of Consumer Protection says water is the culprit in reported complaints of bad gasoline.

State officials say they've traced the fuel to a terminal in New Haven and have targeted their investigation for bad gas at stations in southwestern Connecticut.

They say people complained they had vehicle problems after filling up at several stations in Milford and nearby areas.

Milford mechanics explain that water in gasoline carries sediment and clogs the filters in the engine. The owner of Matty's Service Center in Milford says bad gas is both dangerous and costly.

Officials say they want anyone who thinks they've gotten bad gas to notify the Department of Consumer Protection fuel standards unit by calling 860-713-8160 or 1-800-842-2649.
