Fairfield school budget vote fails

A townwide referendum to restore money to the school budget has failed in Fairfield.

The final tally was 4,311 votes in favor and 3,553 votes against the restoration of $800,000 in funds.

However, 8,640 yes votes were needed to overrule the board.

The vote took place after 1,750 parents signed a petition claiming the town's schools couldn't properly function without the money.
