Charla Nash receives face transplant

Doctors at a Boston hospital have given a Stamford woman a new face after she was mauled two years ago by her friend's pet chimpanzee.

Officials at Brigham and Women's Hospital say they performed the face and hand transplant on Charla Nash late last month, but the hands failed to thrive and had to be removed.

They spoke at a news conference this morning.

They say although she's blind, she'll be able to breathe out of her nose, regain her sense of smell and have a more normal life.

They add Nash is looking forward to finally eating a hamburger, something she hasn't done since the attack in 2009.
