Inspectors, homeowners survey damage in Fairfield

Fairfield Beach Road has been closed to everyone but residents, who were allowed to come back and assess the damage on their homes today.

Those who did return say they found their homes full of water and sand, swept up from the beach by Hurricane Irene.

Inspectors posted notices on any buildings deemed unsafe, and said some would have to be taken down as they were beyond repair.

Police say only one person from the area had to be hospitalized with injuries.
