Irene damages homes along beach in Fairfield

Boarding up windows with plywood did next to nothing for some homes along the beach in Fairfield, which were badly damaged by Hurricane Irene.

The damage on Fairfield Beach Road, west of Reef Road, was so bad poilce have blocked off Reed Road because of the extensive flooding. Windows were smashed and cars submerged underwater by the storm, and Fairfield police say the street was one of the hardest hit in the town.

One resident who evacuated last night says she returned to her home only to find her house flooded with more than four feet of water.
