CT evacuating residents stranded by high water

(AP) - Connecticut authorities are rescuing residents stranded by rising water in Tropical Storm Irene.

Col. John Whitford, a spokesman for the Connecticut NationalGuard, said Sunday that an evacuation from high water was made inMilford and officials are responding to two more evacuationrequests in the shoreline town.

Lt. J. Paul Vance, a spokesman for the State Police, saidevacuation teams were dispatched to Bridgeport. He says residentsare being evacuated in Beacon Falls and in northwest Connecticut.

He said rising rivers are threatening residents and their homesand that authorities are telling residents to leave.
