People stocking up on supplies in anticipation of Irene

People throughout southwestern Connecticut rushed to hardware stores today to stock up on supplies in preparation for Hurricane Irene.

Westport Hardware on Post Road East is one place that has been flooded with customers.

It has been so busy that store owner Richard Velez was forced to request an emergency shipment to re-stock some hot items, including flashlights and lanterns.

"It's a lot of demand, and now because of the storm heading to Fairfield County, we have got vendors running low on supplies, so they cannot refurbish stock as quickly as we like," Velez says.

Velez adds that business really started picking up earlier this week as people began to worry about Irene hitting the region. He says that most of his customers are concerned about losing power.
