Stamford man gets 5 years for accidentally shooting friend

A 20-year-old Stamford man was sentenced to five years behind bars today for accidentally shooting and killing his friend when they wrestled with a gun.

Dozens came to the courthouse to show their support for Franklin Emilcar, who pleaded guilty to reckless manslaughter in the death of 16-year-old Danny Villeda. During the sentencing, Emilcar apologized to Villeda's family in the courtroom. Villeda's mother told News 12 Connecticut she forgives Emilcar, calling her son's death an accident.

Emilcar will be on probation for five years after he completes his sentence.
