Bridgeport BOE under fire for new school board
Many residents in Bridgeport say they are shocked at the lack of diversity among the school district's new board members.
The state ignited a controversy after six Board of Education positions were announced on Friday. Many say they're angry that the board lacks representation from the Latino community, which makes up more than 30 percent of the city's population.
Mayor Bill Finch (D-Bridgeport) also sent a letter to the state education commissioner criticizing the decision not to include a Hispanic representative.
Officials say there is still one slot open and the board is expected to completely be in place by Aug. 29 .
