Westport business owners still feeling the effects of Irene

One month after Tropical Storm Irene hit southwestern Connecticut, the storm surge that pushed back the Saugutuck River is still affecting a nearby shopping district as some businesses in Westport are still struggling to reopen while others are suffering from damaged inventory.

Business owners say they are concerned that the longer it takes for everything to completely recover, the longer it will take for customers to come back.

Rep. Jim Himes (D-Conn.) and officials from the Small Business Administration plan to tour parts of the Main Street section of town. Himes says he'll also be talking with business owners about federal relief programs that may help them rebuild or cover the costs of damages.
