Elderly driver survives after train smashes into car in Stamford
An 80-year-old woman is lucky to be alive after a Metro-North train crashed into her car around noon today in Stamford.
Officials say the driver of the car tried to cross the tracks at Riverdale Drive South when the New Canaan line train was pulling into the Springdale station.
Two Good Samaritans say they came to the aid of the woman, finding her unconscious in the car until rescuers came on scene and were able to free her.
Fire officials say the woman only suffered minor cuts and scrapes.
Officials say police are unlikely to charge the driver in the incident.
