911 recordings of suspected serial arsonist released

Fairfield police have released 911 recordings of the man that they say set vacant homes on fire throughout town.

Authorities say they received the emergency call about a fire on Cornell Road and were able to trace the number to Christopher Message, who eventually admitted to starting six fires over a four-day period.

According to investigators, Message is a former EMT and Trumbull volunteer firefighter recently terminated from his job. They say Message called 911 after becoming worried that someone may be trapped inside.

Police say Message told them that he had been drinking while taking anxiety medication and that the combination makes him impulsive and want to damage things. A judge has ordered him to undergo a psychiatric evaluation before his next court appearance this month.
