Sewage dumping banned in NY side of the LI Sound

Environmental leaders announced promising news for the health of the Long Island Sound today.

Boaters are now prohibited from dumping sewage in the New York side of the waterway and must now dispose of waste at specially-designed pump stations.

Former Gov. Jodi Rell (R-Conn.) had previously banned dumping in the Connecticut side of the Sound in 2007 after the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) said the sewage has harmful levels of pathogens and other chemicals.
