Black Rock Yacht Club thanks neighbors for help

A Bridgeport yacht club that suffered extensive damage during Tropical Storm Irene is thanking its neighbors for their help.

The Black Rock Yacht Club on Govers Avenue is currently shut down until its insurance company can come and make an assessment. The head of the club, Dr. Kurt Schlichting, says its dock was destroyed by storm surges and the clubhouse pummeled.

However, Schlichting says the damage could have been even worse if it weren't for the help of neighboring Fayerweather and Captain Cove yacht clubs, which offered to shelter many of the Black Rock vessels during the storm.
