Power restoration sparks problems in Westport

While the lights are slowly coming back on in many southwestern Connecticut communities, local fire departments today warned of the potential problems power restoration can cause.

Westport firefighters say they've responded to several calls resulting from power coming back on.

Westport Fire Chief Andrew Kingsbury says a surge of electricity can cause a lot of damage and that's the last thing people want after six days in the dark.

Officials recommend turning off all breakers except for the lights until power is restored. They also say homes that have been flooded are at particular risk and they will need an electrician to look over the system.
