Sen. Blumenthal, officials tour Bridgeport storm damage

Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) and Bridgeport officials assessed some of the damage from Hurricane Irene along the city's coastline today.

Officials took a boat ride on the Long Island Sound to get a different look at the damage.

The Pleasure Beach Pier and the well-known fishing pier at Seaside Park were demolished in the storm. Significant flooding and destruction to the seawall also occurred.

Officials say at the height of the storm they responded to 160 emergency calls. They say 34 streets, 691 buildings and 1,400 dwelling units were impacted by the storm's damage.

At this point, city officials say it's estimated the damage could cost the city $5 million.
