Norwalk police catch suspected preschool thief

A homeless woman accused of stealing $300 from a Norwalk preschool appeared in court today.

Police say the woman was caught at a local library last night at around 7 p.m. after News 12 Connecticut viewers saw surveillance tape of 34-year-old Mary Irwin stealing the money from Room to Grow on East Avenue.

Irwin's attorney says his defendant has apologized to the preschool and has promised to replace the money soon.

Irwin, who has a daughter, is originally from New York.
