Bridgeport family mourns 7-year-old killed in apartment fire

The family of a 7-year-old Bridgeport boy is grieving this evening after he was killed during an apartment fire early this morning. Police say the fire broke out shortly after 5 a.m. in the third-floor apartment on Highland Avenue. They say the boy, Kyle Jean-Baptiste, lived there with his mother, and was inside with seven other people when the fire started. As soon as firefighters arrived, the boy's mother reportedly told them that her son was still inside. They say they were not able to successfully rescue him due to the intensity of the flames, and that they found his body underneath a mattress. "The public's not grieving like I'm grieving," the boy's mother says. "My friends and I am. I'm not trying to be mean. I know what I lost."Kyle was a second-grader at New Beginnings Family Academy in Bridgeport. Officials have yet to announce the cause of the fire.7-year-old killed in Bridgeport fireVIDEO: Fatal Bridgeport fire
