Police, alarm companies caution homeowners after break-ins

Local alarm companies are warning homeowners that criminals have gotten smarter after at least three southwestern Connecticut homes were burglarized in a clever way over the last month.

Darien police say the thieves have been cutting into the roofs and sides of homes to gain access.

Officials say burglars entered through the roof of a home on Inwood Road and two weeks ago, thieves cut through the front door of a home in Westport.

The owner of Active Alarm in Norwalk says he's encouraging homeowners to update their alarm systems with motion detectors.

Police are looking into the possibility that the burglaries are connected.
