Westport police probe several burglaries

Four local communities are teaming up to try to find the people responsible for burglarizing homes along the Merritt Parkway over the past couple of months.

Westport police are urging residents to take extra steps to protect their homes after several recent burglaries.

Police say burglars are targeting homes that appear to be unoccupied in areas near the Merritt Parkway. Other communities, including Darien, Stamford and Fairfield, have been hit as well.

Police say residents should hold their mail and newspaper deliveries if they're going to be away. Residents should also leave some lights on, so it looks like someone's home and ask neighbors or family members to check on the home. Police suggest keeping valuables in more than one spot.

Anyone with information about these burglaries is asked to contact Westport police at 203-341-6006.
