Police: 7-year-old letter solves 1989 murder

Bridgeport police say they have charged a man with murdering his girlfriend in a 22-year-old case after a letter the victim wrote was found.

Police say Joseph Santiago, 40, was arrested Friday for shooting Aida Ramos on Pembroke Street in 1989.

Before Ramos died in 2004 from injuries sustained in the shooting, she wrote a letter describing the incident. She wrote that Santiago stood behind her and asked, ?Do you know what a gun could do??

Ramos said she never turned around, but, ?felt something hot in my neck and I fell on my right side on the couch.?
