Westport PD honors women linked to fugitive's arrest

Westport police commended two women today for their assistance in the arrest of a fugitive two weeks ago. Police say Erin Meaney, 29, and Marica Dacey, 22, called 911 when they spotted murder suspect Thomas Gardner near Playhouse Square. Gardner, who was wanted for the murder of a man in Massachusetts, crashed his car after a pursuit along local roads and I-95. He then fled on foot, forcing police to inform residents of the situation. Meaney and Dacey say they searched for the suspect?s image online, and Meaney says she left work to make a phone call when she spotted Gardner walking toward her. She went back inside, and the two women contacted police. Gardner was arrested minutes after the call was made.
