Parents blast Norwalk youth football coach for canceling team trip

Parents and students expressed anger today when a Norwalk youth football coach announced that his players would not make the trip to Florida for their league's national championship. The Norwalk Packers recently won their first state championship in five years, but coach Mike Diorio says, even if the team wins the upcoming regional title in Massachusetts, they will not fly south due to financial constraints. In an email addressed to parents, Diorio says the trip would put a burden on several families. "I was not going to allow a player's last memory of this season to be that he was left behind," he writes in the statement. Some parents say the trip would cost more than $70,000. They have decided not to raise money independently.
