Stamford doctor to work on 'functional cure' for HIV

A major medical breakthrough in AIDS-HIV treatment involves a doctor in southwestern Connecticut.

Federal health officials announced today that a Stamford physician will be one of only five specialists nationwide to further investigate the world's first "functional cure" for HIV.

Dr. Gary Blick will be working with a California company, Sangamo BioSciences, which has pioneered a way to alter a patient's cells to fight off the AIDS virus.
