Boat captain saved by authorities in Stratford

A boat captain was saved today when the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and Stratford police got a mayday call.

The Stratford captain, who did not want to be named, says his fishing day was abruptly cut short this morning when his boat, the Freebird II, bottomed out on a sandbar.

Those in charge of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary in Stratford say they have been aiding in incidents such as today's for more than half a century.
