Bridgeport families left homeless after two-home fire

Officials in Bridgeport are investigating a multiple-home fire that left up to a dozen families homeless this evening. Officials say flames broke out in the first-floor bedroom of a three-story home on Hanover Street, quickly spreading to the rest of the house. Firefighters say it then spread to the house next door, which also has three stories. Red Cross officials say between eight and twelve families were left homeless by the fire, and one of the victims says a member of his family lost most of her belongings. "It's sad," says Jimmy Rivera. "This happens a lot in Bridgeport. It's sad. She has kids. She just lost everything." Sources say one firefighter suffered minor injuries and is expected to recover.
