Police: Elderly pedestrian struck by taxi in Stamford

An elderly man is recovering after being struck by a taxi while he crossed Washington Boulevard in Stamford this morning.

Officials say 73-year-old Francis Monaghan was crossing Washington Boulevard at Main Street at around 11 a.m. when he was struck by a taxi being driven by Ofalio Jean-Pierre, throwing Monaghan onto the taxi?s windshield and then onto the road.

Police say that they determined that Monaghan was crossing in violation of the pedestrian control signal and that Jean-Pierre had the green light and the right of way.

Jean-Pierre was not ticketed for the incident, according to officials.

Authorities say that while Monaghan did suffer leg and head injuries, the injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.
