Thomas Merton Center in Bridgeport reopens after gang threat
A Bridgeport soup kitchen reopened today after threats of gang violence forced officials to shut the doors yesterday.
The Thomas Merton Center on Madison Avenue had a sign on the door yesterday that said the center was closed because of illegal activity.
The soup kitchen is run by Catholic Charities and they said they had to close the doors to protect everyone after one staff member was seriously threatened by a patron on Monday.
They also said there have been issues with drugs being sold outside the center.
People who rely on the soup kitchen for meals on a daily basis said they were upset at being locked out.
