2011 legislative session nearing end

(AP) - Time is quickly running out onConnecticut's 2011 legislative session. After a long holiday weekend, the General Assembly is scheduledto return to Hartford on Tuesday for a full week of votes. Thisyear's session ends June 8. Several key bills await action. Lawmakers plan to vote on thegovernor's plan to cover a $400 million gap in the two-year, $40.1billion budget. With that vote, legislators could also approve atentative, two-year $1.6 billion labor savings agreement, pendingratification by state employee union members. The Senate is still expected to vote on a bill extending legalprotections to transgendered individuals. Meanwhile, the House ofRepresentatives is expected to take up a revised bill clarifyingwhich inmates can participate in a new program to reduce theirsentences.
