Residents support outgoing superintendent at Greenwich meeting

Parents and teachers packed the Greenwich High School's auditorium tonight as the school board met to discuss the surprise resignation of the district's superintendent.

Those who attended gave a standing ovation for outgoing Greenwich Superintendent Sidney Freund for his leadership and energy.

Many criticized the Board of Education a week after Freund issued a letter announcing his resignation, citing the disruptive action of two board members.

Members of the local tea party were at the meeting as well, passing out flyers praising the two board members, who they claim stood up to the majority.

Freund was the district?s fourth permanent superintendent in 11 years.

Hundreds have also joined a Facebook group, urging the former superintendent to reconsider.
