Water back on for dozens of New Canaan businesses

Water is back on for 30 New Canaan businesses after a water main break left many without running water today.

The Aquarion water company says a 100-year-old pipe on Main Street burst underground at around 5 a.m. today.

Town officials say that the earth shifted over time and had put pressure on the pipe underground, which caused the damage.

Many business owners on Main Street said it was bad for business and they tried their best to operate as usual.

Town officials also say it is not the first time a water main break like this has happened underneath this part of town. They say fixing the issue is up to the water company and officials say because of the expense factor, it doesn?t appear likely.
