Stamford man in critical condition after attack

Stamford police are searching for the suspect who shot a man three times and beat him with a baseball bat.

They say the victim is a 37-year-old man from Bridgeport, who was convicted of a murder in 1991 and had two warrants out for his arrest.

Officers say the incident happened just before 5 a.m. Saturday near the corner of Lipton and Atlantic streets on the city's south side.

Capt. Richard Conklin, of the Stamford Police Department, says, "We found the victim had been shot several times and beaten with a baseball bat, so severely that the baseball bat even splintered and broke apart."

Police say the victim is at Stamford Hospital in critical condition.
