Low-income elderly Stamford residents may be forced from homes
Thirty-two low-income elderly and disabled residents in Stamford might be looking for new homes soon.
The Eleanor Roosevelt House on Knapp Street failed the federal housing inspection for two years in a row.
Officials say the problems at the building caused the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to cancel its Section 8 housing contract.
The city is deciding to back up the building owner by writing a letter in the owner's favor asking HUD to reconsider its decision.
City officials say the building owner promises to comply with all regulations, but they will hire the company of their choice to manage the building.
The owner has promised to correct all the violations.
