Students attempt sit-in for classmate banned from prom

Shelton High School students say they attempted to take a stand today for a classmate who has gained national attention after school officials banned him from the prom.

James Tate was banned from the event after he put up a sign on the school, asking his girlfriend to the prom.

Students today say they assembled outside the high school auditorium as an attempt to hold a sit-in, but returned to their classes after teachers warned them that they could get into trouble.

Many of the students that News 12 Connecticut spoke with say they may make another attempt at a sit-in in defense of Tate.
