Residents push Bridgeport to pull trigger on Remington demo

Bridgeport residents are calling for city officials to make good on their threat to tear down the fire-plagued Remington Arms factory buildings.

Following last month's fire at the old Remington Arms factory site, Bridgeport officials issued an ultimatum. They said that if developer Sal Dinardo did not begin demolishing his property within 48 hours, then the city would.

Despite the warning, only one of the buildings was demolished as a safety precaution following the fire. However, residents are asking for all of the buildings to be leveled.

Mayor Bill Finch says the city wants to demolish the buildings, but they are still in bankruptcy court with Dinardo trying to take the property for back taxes.
