Stamford woman attacked with cleaning chemical

Police are searching for the man who they say attacked a woman, sprayed chemicals into her eyes and robbed her in Stamford yesterday.

Authorities say the victim, who works at an IHOP, was on her way to the People's United Bank to deposit restaurant profits when she was thrown to the ground near the corner of Summer and Eighth streets.

The attacker apparently sprayed some kind of cleaning chemical into the woman's face and got away with the money.

IHOP manager Mark Elshafey says bank employees helped the woman wash the unidentified chemical substance out of her eyes.

Police describe the suspect as a tall white male with a stocky build. They say he was carrying a white plastic bag that had an undetermined amount of cash inside.

Anyone with information is urged to call Stamford police at 203-977-4417.
