A Bridgeport woman and her 2-year-old son with autism are no longer homeless, thanks to a story News 12 first reported on Thursday.

Amber Foley, 29, says she and her son Giovanni are thrilled to be at Helping Hands Transitional Housing on Pennell Street in Bridgeport. 

They spent the past two months homeless and carried all of their belongings in two small bags.

Foley says she was turned away from every other shelter in the region due to concerns those facilities had about handling a child with autism, who might be prone to hitting his head against the wall or on the floor. 

News 12 Connecticut viewers saw Foley's story Thursday and began calling to offer their support. News 12 put them in touch with the homeless mother.

The founders of Helping Hands say the story inspired them to help.

The family will move into the facility on Monday.
