Robbery suspects sought after stealing money from Bridgeport business
Bridgeport police are asking for help identifying suspects seen on surveillance video robbing a check-cashing store on Park Avenue.
The robbery happened early Thursday morning, and the owner of El Mexicanito says the incident was the second time his store has been hit.
The surveillance video shows two suspects walking up the store and then breaking in through the front window. They then walk up to the register and take out cash.
Heber Garcia says his family started the business to give the Spanish-speaking community a place to pay bills and conduct many kinds of financial transactions.
He says the robbery is an attack on that community.
"As hard as times are, I feel like robbing someone of the only way they earn money, that's just wrong," he says.
Garcia says he would like police to step up patrols around his business. Bridgeport Police Chief AJ Perez says he has already granted that request.
