Stamford HS students mourn after teen dies near school
Grief counselors were available at Stamford High School Monday as the community mourned the loss of a student who was hit by a car while on her way to a college entrance exam.
Police say Karina Tinajero, 18, was hit by a van Saturday morning while crossing Strawberry Hill Avenue to take the SAT.
She reportedly was not in the crosswalk at the time.
News 12 was told she was taken to Stamford Hospital but could not be saved.
Police say the driver stayed on the scene and is cooperating with investigators. According to police, no criminal charges have been filed.
Students say the school community is working on a petition and GoFundMe campaign to get a crosswalk put up in front of the school.
