Bridgeport street renamed after late City Council member
Officials in Bridgeport say they are going to rename a city street after the first African-American woman to sit on the City Council.
The street will honor Winifred Timberlake, who was 87 when she died one year ago.
Officials tell News 12 they plan to re-designate Lafayette Street at South Frontage Road as "Winifred Timberlake Boulevard."
Timberlake served on the council during the 1980s, and worked to get public housing built on the city's South End, which she represented.
Officials say they hope to have the street renamed in Timberlake's honor by early next year.
