Fundraiser started for scholarship in honor of late student
Stamford High School's principal has announced a fundraising campaign to start a scholarship in honor of a student who was fatally struck by a van in front of the school.
As News 12 has reported, 18-year-old Karina Tinajero was struck by a car while walking to take the SATs earlier this month.
Principal Ray Manka tells News 12 that the scholarship would be a yearly award going to a high-performing senior in the English Learning Program who's going to college.
Manka says Tinajero was a straight-A student who was determined to go on to college after she graduated.
Tinajero's family moved to Connecticut from Mexico with the goal of giving her a better life.
A crosswalk was added in front of Stamford High School as a result of Tinajero's death.
