Police continue search for man suspected of killing wife
Stamford police say they believe the man on the run for killing his wife and then abandoning the couple's daughter at a busy New York bus terminal is still in the tri-state area.
Police on Wednesday identified the victim as 24-year-old Dionicia Bautista-Cano, a Guatemalan native. Police tell News 12 she was found inside the couple's apartment on Courtland Avenue Monday morning. They haven't released her cause of death, but say there were signs of a struggle in the apartment.
Police say 32-year-old Elmer Gomez Ruano and his wife had been estranged and living apart until the family moved in together over the weekend. Before that, they say Ruano lived in another neighborhood in Stamford while his wife and child lived in Flemington, New Jersey.
The investigation began after the couple's 5-year-old daughter was found left alone at the Port Authority Bus Terminal Monday morning. Police say Ruano was last seen there in surveillance video walking with his daughter. She told police that he told her to wait for him there but never came back. Police say the girl was able to give police her address in Stamford, which led them to find her mother dead.
The child is currently with the Department of Children and Family Services in Connecticut.
