Volunteers fill care packages in Stamford for Giving Tuesday

Giving Tuesday - celebrated the Tuesday after Thanksgiving - gives people the opportunity to raise money for charities and donate their time to those in need.
In Stamford, dozens of volunteers for AmeriCares spent the day filling up care packages that will be handed out for victims of natural disasters.
The volunteers created 1,000 first aid kits that included items such as bandages to antibacterial cream.
Giving Tuesday began as a response to the consumerism that surrounds the holiday season.
Officials say that last year, more than 700,000 people around the world raised more than $116 million online for charity.
AmeriCares says it reaches 90 countries and responds to about 30 disasters per year.
