New Canaan man in court after son's heroin overdose
The New Canaan father charged with second-degree manslaughter for allegedly giving his son heroin before a fatal overdose was arraigned in Norwalk Superior Court Friday.
It was the first court appearance for Mark Lynch since he surrendered to police in response to a Nov. 21 warrant for his arrest.
Police say he gave his 25-year-old son, Chris Lynch, heroin on Sept. 24. Police responded to an emergency call at their New Canaan home the next day, when they say they found the younger Lynch dead in his bed with a puddle of vomit under his head.
Officials say paramedics tried to revive him but were unsuccessful. A medical examiner cited "acute heroin intoxication" as the cause of death in a Nov. 15 report.
Police say Lynch initially told them he provided his son with the heroin, but later retracted that statement.
Lynch is due back in court on Dec. 16. His lawyer declined to speak on camera but called the death a tragic situation.
