A former Fairfield pharmacy has become a seller and installer of medical gear, offering three types of equipment fit to keeping seniors safe at home.

Bryan Collins, of Collins Medical and Accessibility, says his rails and ramps are a priority for seniors who want to go up and down stairs. He also provides chairs that can lift a seated person to their feet. 

Associates of the store will also do free evaluations and recommend what needs to be done in order to prevent falls.

Collins says his great-grandfather started the family business 85 years ago, and it has since evolved from a pharmacy to a medical equipment shop, after the store sold its pharmaceutical side to CVS 13 years ago.

The company now focuses solely on medical equipment with an emphasis on accessibility products. 

The store was first located on Fairfield Avenue in Black Rock and has since moved several times before finding its way to Fairfield.

Studies show people over 70 years old often do not fully recover enough to live independently after a fall.
