Police: Man facing charges after sexual assault in Fairfield

Police say a man is facing charges this evening in connection to a reported sexual assault and robbery Saturday on Reef Road in Fairfield.
Police say a woman was walking home from the train station after 10 p.m. when a man assaulted her at knifepoint. They say he then robbed and sexually assaulted her.
Officials say they arrested 48-year-old Michael Fontaine shortly after the attack when people nearby called for help.
Officers arrived on the scene and noticed footprints and blood in the snow. Officials say that is what led police to Fontaine.
"This was a very horrible crime that occurred," said Fairfield Police Chief Gary MacNamara. "We've very thankful that number one, the victim is OK, that the neighbors came together collectively to provide us with that information, and that our officers were able to take him into custody."
Investigators say they are still looking into Fontaine's background. They say he was released from a prison in Connecticut just this month and has a history of sexual assaults and crimes in other states.
