Police: Woman shot in the head in Bridgeport
Bridgeport police say a woman is in critical condition after she was shot in the head.
They say the shooting took place around 9:15 p.m. Saturday in a parking area on East Maine Street.
Witness Lewis Santana says he was shoveling snow when he saw two men come out from behind a building, run up to a white car and open fire into it.
The driver's side window was shattered. The gunfire missed the male driver, but struck his female passenger in the head.
Santana says the man who had been in the driver's side kept repeating the same words over and over after the shooting. "He said, 'Baby, please don't die on me, I'm sorry, I'm so sorry, please, baby don't die on me.'"
The woman was hospitalized with critical injuries.
Her identity has not been released but officials say she is 26 years old.
Investigators say they are reviewing surveillance video for leads in the case.
