DOT starts construction project to ease traffic in Norwalk

A new road project will ease traffic on Route 1 in Norwalk, the Department of Transportation said Thursday.

The DOT has already started marking the roads where workers will widen them to add new lanes.

The intersection of Route 1 and East Avenue has been a problem for years.

Sen. Bob Duff says he gets a ton of complaints about the intersection from drivers who are stuck in a backup as they come up the hill.

The DOT is going to add three lanes, including a left turn lane for East Avenue.

The DOT also said it planned more work for the intersection with Stuart Avenue.

The expected completion date is in August 2018.
