Stamford police continue to search for hit-and-run driver

A hit-and-run driver slammed into a pedestrian at West Main Street and Richmond Hill Avenue in Stamford early Sunday morning, police say.

The victim, 42-year-old Gilberto Monroy, remains hospitalized in an intensive care unit, and the driver is still at large. Police are asking for the public's help and reviewing surveillance cameras in the area.

They're looking for a four-door vehicle with a damaged windshield, passenger-side headlight and grill.

The victim's family says he'd been living in south Stamford. They are unsure what he was doing on West Main Street.

Police tell News 12 a taxi driver noticed Monroy in the street around 2:40 a.m. Sunday and called 911.
